Tea 1: Matcha Genmaicha

So excited that my box from the TenRen tea company arrived today! I decided our first pot would be of Matcha Genmaicha.

Here is the description of this tea, provided by TenRen.com:

"Ten Ren Tea's Matcha Genmaicha tea is comprised of sencha green tea blended with roasted brown rice and matcha tea powder. Tea steeped from these tea leaves has an emerald green hue. The taste is pleasant with a hint of roasted rice and matcha. The aroma is a light scent of freshness and roasted rice. Genmaicha may be enjoyed hot or chilled."

Here is what the loose tea looked like in the pot:

Wait 3-5 minutes while it steeps:

I wanted to get a picture of the brewed pot....and the steam filled hit my lens, it's kind of like wearing glasses:

Pouring the cups:

Ah, some tea for me and my sweetea ;)

My thought's on the tea:

Taste: It had a nice roasted flavor with a slight, but not too strong, bite to it.

Aroma: Wonderful, like roasted nuts and rice krispie treats...it reminded me of going to Grandma's house at Christmas. You know the smell that hits you when you walk out from a cold crisp day and into a house with lots of food cooking and a wood burning fire?

End Thoughts: It was very much like a cup of tea from a Japanese restaurant. Obviously, it was about 1000x better than any bag of green tea I've had.

I will have to compare this to tomorrow's tea, as this is my first cup and so I am unsure of what to compare it to.

P.S. My sweetea (husband), didn't like it very much. He also does not like coffee or typical tea either, so not surprised.
